Crowell Nursing Center earned a 5 out of 5 overall rating for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. This rating surpasses the Texas statewide average for nursing homes, which stood at 2.7 during that period.
The facility offered 67 available beds, which is 46 fewer than the Texas state average for the first quarter of 2026. On average, the center assisted 46.7 residents per day in the same period.
In the first quarter of 2026, Crowell Nursing Center also reported no fines or penalties.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates show the population of older adults in the country continues to rise, while the number of younger Americans declines. From 2020 to 2024, there was a 13% increase in Americans ages 65 and older, compared with a 1.7% decrease in those under 18. Over the past century, the nation’s older adult population has increased significantly, rising from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.
A study from 2021 estimated that around half of Americans in this age range, totaling approximately 28 million, are likely to need long-term care and supports. More than a third could eventually require care in a nursing facility.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
