Nocona Medicaid providers received $2,851 for Evaluation and Management in 2024, a 17.7% rise

Nocona Medicaid providers collected $2,851 for services grouped under the Evaluation and Management category in 2024, data from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Medicaid Provider Spending database shows. This figure reflects a 17.7% gain from 2023, when providers billed $2,423 for the same care category.

Medicaid, a government-operated health insurance program, is jointly funded by federal and state governments. It is designed to serve low-income families and individuals, children, seniors, and those with disabilities, and is a primary component of the U.S. health care sector.

As Medicaid funding comes from taxpayer dollars, shifts in local billing patterns indicate how community public health funds are being distributed.

The “Evaluation and Management” group encompasses several Medicaid-billed services determined by the care type provided, arranged using standardized HCPCS and CPT codes. This analysis organizes each billing code into a single service group using code prefixes and ranges, which enables analysis of similar services together while avoiding double counting and ensuring accurate historical rankings.

Although Medicaid expenditures grew across a range of service types, Evaluation and Management was the third-largest category in Nocona by Medicaid payments in 2024.

Statewide, Evaluation and Management was also the third-ranked Medicaid payment category in Texas in 2024.

From 2020 through 2024, Nocona saw Medicaid payments in the Evaluation and Management category grow by $2,851, or 0%, with periods of more rapid increases, particularly in 2022 and 2022.

While Evaluation and Management payments were distributed within the city, the majority originated from a small number of ZIP codes. In 2024, ZIP code 76255 received nearly all payment activity for Evaluation and Management, totaling $2,850 and accounting for all related Medicaid payments recorded in Nocona that year.

Within this category, payments were also heavily concentrated among just a few specific billing codes.

To put local growth in perspective, Evaluation and Management Medicaid payments in Nocona rose 17.7% from 2023 to 2024, compared to a 50.1% change observed across all Medicaid claim categories citywide in that period.

According to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, combined state and federal Medicaid expenditures climbed to approximately $871.7 billion in the 2023 fiscal year, representing about 18% of national health spending—significantly higher than $613.5 billion in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

This increase equates to nearly 40% growth over several years, attributed mainly to higher enrollment and increased use of services during and following the pandemic.

Recently, federal budget measures implemented under the Trump administration have introduced major proposals to shrink federal Medicaid funding and revise the program. One such measure, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” enacted in 2025, is estimated to reduce federal Medicaid investment by more than $1 trillion over the next 10 years and features policies such as work requirements and more cost-sharing that may narrow funding or coverage for some beneficiaries. These changes are forecast to push more costs onto states and limit federal Medicaid growth, even as the program continues to assist tens of millions nationwide.
