Cottle County, with a population of just over 1,500, will receive over $34,000 after Gov. Greg Abbott allocated $41 million in federal funds to help in Texas' COVID-19 response.
The Coronavirus Emergency Supplemental Funding Program, which was part of the federal Emergency Appropriations for Coronavirus Health Response and Agency Operations Act, was responsible for the funding.
"I thank our federal partners for their support and ongoing collaboration as we work to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in Texas," Abbott said in a news release. "This funding is critical to helping local governments protect Texans and combat the spread of the virus in our communities. The State of Texas will continue to work with the federal government to help meet the needs of our cities and counties as they respond to COVID-19."
The funding will be used for overtime and hazard pay for first responders; supplies for telework technologies; social distancing; personal protection gear; and county jail expenditures.
