The Texas Water Development Board approved a plan for the City of Iowa Colony in Wichita County to fix its drainage system.

The board approved $150,000 for the city to help with its master drainage plan, which will help with a comprehensive evaluation of the system and accurately understand the infrastructure. The board approved a total of $44.6 million in financial assistance for grant funding from the Flood Infrastructure Fund (FIF) for watershed flood protection statewide.

The projects that received approval are eligible for FIF funding that is designed to support studies for conduct planning for watersheds to better inform structural and nonstructural strategy developments, a news release notes.

The Texas Legislature passed an amendment last year that provided funding through FIF, which was subsequently approved by voters. The board was charged with collecting and dispersing information and data regarding flood planning and water planning. It also administers financial assistance programs for water supply and treatment construction, as well as flood control and water conservation project construction.
