There were 1,871 students enrolled in Vernon ISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 1.5% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.1% of them were boys, and 48.9% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Vernon ISD students was Hispanic, accounting for 47.8% of the student population.

Vernon ISD roughly covers schools within Wilbarger County with its main office in Vernon.

Among the six schools in Vernon ISD, Shive Elementary School recorded the highest enrollment of 555 students in the 2021-22 school year.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
