Cottle County Education: Fewer students enrolled in Paducah School in 2021-22 school year

The only school in Cottle County suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Texas Education Agency report.

There were 161 students in the halls of Paducah School, 12% lower than the year before.

The enrollment numbers in Cottle County fell short of the state's trend of increasing enrollment.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 51.6% of the students were girls, and 48.4% were boys.

The most represented ethnicity among Paducah School students was Hispanic, accounting for 46.6% of the student population.

Paducah School has a main office in Paducah and is the only school within Cottle County.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

“The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students, dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools, gun violence, and mental health issues,” claimed the Texas Almanac.
