Enrollment at Knox City-O'Brien CISD schools decreased by 4.6% compared to previous school year

There were 228 students enrolled in Knox City-O'Brien CISD schools in the 2021-22 school year, 4.6% less than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 50.4% of them were girls, and 49.6% were boys.

Data also shows that the majority of students were Hispanic, representing 57.9% of the Knox City-O'Brien CISD total enrollment.

Knox City-O'Brien CISD roughly covers schools within Knox County with its main office in Knox City.

Education in Texas is often a hot button issue, especially as test scores lag behind other states.

"The problems commonly cited are flaws in the school financing system, relatively low teacher salary, poor test performance by students... dropouts from traditional schools in favor of charter schools... gun violence, and mental health issues," claimed the Texas Almanac.
